The city of Philadelphia is having a moment. Aside from playing host to Pope Francis last September and to the future Democratic candidate for President this upcoming July, Lonely Planet recently named Philadelphia the “Top U.S. Destination for 2016.” As a local, it’s great to see the city shine a bit! Last week, I had the opportunity to stop by the city’s newest hospitality addition, The Logan, Philadelphia. The new hotel is eager to welcome guests to the City of Brotherly Love. I had the opportunity to sample signature cocktails and appetizers in the lobby bar, The Commons. The vibe was a bit hipper than the normally stuffy hotel bar atmosphere. I’m eager to go back and dine at Urban Farmer, a farm-to-table, local steakhouse concept. Even more exciting is the Assembly Rooftop Lounge, set to debut this spring. Rooftop bars are seriously lacking in the city, and this one will offer awesome views of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. The hotel also offers great meeting and event facilities, with a total of 12,000 square feet of indoor space and 6,300 square feet of outdoor space. I recommend inquiring further about the artwork when you visit. There are a lot of special and unique touches throughout. In the lobby, the chandelier is in collaboration with the Philadelphia Historical Society and features more than 300 portraits of important Philadelphians in the shape of a figure eight, as Pennsylvania was one of the eight original colonies. And that’s the beginning of the art tour. I’m eager to sample the on-site spa this spring and report back in a future issue of Global Traveler, and Monique Barrett, senior editor, and I will be attending next week’s grand opening soiree, where we hope to learn even more of the story behind the cool new hotel in our city.
