Even though it is St. Patrick’s Day, my blog is not about Ireland but another European country — Holland. And these beautiful tulips on my desk are taking me back to last weekend, before the snow piles outside of my office window decorated the landscape. Sunday I was transported to the land of tulips, bicycles and wooden shoes courtesy of the annual Philadelphia Flower Show , a widely popular event for the city.

Should you find yourself anywhere near the City of Brotherly Love this weekend, the event runs through March 19.

One of my favorite aspects from this year’s show was the stunning entrance; attendees entered under a canopy of 6,000 fresh and dried flowers arranged in a rainbow pattern. It was gorgeous. Aside from the rich colors and brilliant blooms, I appreciated the incorporation of traditionally Dutch elements into the displays — think wooden shoe planters, bicycles, Delft blue flatware. The show also told the stories of horticulture, eco-design, urban greening and sustainability in the Netherlands.

Ticket proceeds benefit the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. In the instance of the Philadelphia Flower Show, the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy some of my favorite snaps from my visit!
