The Langham, Boston’s Chocolate Bar

Apr 9, 2014

Last month I had the pleasure of spending a beautiful afternoon in downtown Boston indulging at The Langham, Boston’s Chocolate Bar, an all-you-can-eat chocolate buffet offered on Saturdays from September through June at the hotel’s Café Fleuri. In honor of its 25th season, the hotel is celebrating the anniversary with a Decades of Decadence theme, featuring the most popular desserts from the last 25 years.

Executive Chef Mark Sapienza and Pastry Chef Ryan Pike (above) chose customer favorites from themes of the past. Since the Chocolate Bar’s inauguration in the 1980s, the team of chefs has developed a variety of unique themes, including one that focused on the five elements of wood, metal, water, fire and earth and another that offered desserts inspired by Boston’s neighborhoods. This year’s buffet features more than 120 favorites from the past 25 years, plus new creations.

Sitting at a table in the sunlight, my friend and I enjoyed selections from each of the tables, the crepe station, the fondue table and the sundae bar. We washed the sweets down with coffee and hot chocolate while listening to the DJ’s musical creations. The quality of the buffet was topnotch; each of the mini-desserts tasted fresh and decadent. Items ranged from favorites like Boston cream pie, carrot cake with cream cheese icing, dark chocolate truffles and chocolate-covered strawberries to unique creations like banana bacon tarts and pecan tarts with bourbon. The Chocolate Bar also caters to those with allergies or dietary restrictions, providing an array of desserts that are nut-free, gluten-free and vegan.

A trip to Café Fleuri in The Langham, Boston to experience the hotel’s indulgent Chocolate Bar is a must for dessert lovers and those who wish to celebrate anniversaries or milestone occasions with delicious sweets. The buffet is available through the end of June on Saturdays for $42 per person ($29 for children ages 5–12 and free for children four years and younger), with seatings available for 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Visit the website for more information.
