Labor Day Weekend Travel Forecast

Aug 27, 2014

Traveling this Labor Day weekend? According to AAA Travel, 34.7 million Americans are expected to travel 50 or more miles from home during the holiday weekend. The forecast represents the highest volume for Labor Day weekend since the recession-driven travel decline and a 1.3 percent increase from 2013. I’ll be joining the 35 million Americans traveling this weekend, celebrating the holiday with beach fun in Ocean City, Md., for two nights before taking the ferry over to Cape May from Lewes and visiting Wildwood for a night, and will be part of the 29.7 million traveling via automobile. While airfare prices will increase by 2 percent to accommodate the 1 percent increase in air travel this season, those hitting the road this year will find lower-than-usual gas prices despite the fact that automobile travel will increase by 1.4 percent this year. According to Travelocity, the most popular Labor Day destination based on airfare bookings is New York City, followed by Seattle and Los Angeles.  Compared to last year, both Washingtons — D.C. and state, specifically Seattle — are increasingly popular travel destinations, with D.C. moving from No. 10 to No. 7, and Seattle moving from No. 4 to No. 2. The full Top 10 most popular Labor Day destinations are

  1. New York City
  2. Seattle
  3. Los Angeles
  4. San Francisco
  5. Denver
  6. Chicago
  7. Washington, D.C.
  8. South Florida
  9. Boston
  10. Las Vegas

The Bishop’s Lodge’s Bunkhouse: A Rustic, Historic Getaway

Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a small town that’s big on historic landmarks, buildings, parks and Western lore. Many of its most fascinating structures also happen to be hotels, including Bishop’s Lodge, which extends the city’s specific charms from the streets into the public areas and private suites and rooms. While most of the properties within historic buildings are upscale, Bishop’s Lodge is now a member of Auberge Resorts Collection thanks to a painstaking restoration, luxury appointments, commitment to personal service and wide range of exclusive activities.

Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh Review

Phnom Penh as we imagined it stretches beneath us: a picturesque, low-rise mix of Southeast Asian and French Colonial styles. When the inhabitants of those buildings look back at us here in the Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Chip Mong Tower, they see the future.
