I spent part of my recent honeymoon on the island of Tahiti, staying at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa. It was my first visit to French Polynesia and the South Pacific, and I was very excited to split my time relaxing on the property and exploring the island. We arrived in Tahiti very early in the morning.
The InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa is located a very quick taxi ride from the airport. As we were very early, our room was not yet ready, and we took the opportunity to explore the resort.
First, we enjoyed a light breakfast at Te Tiare Restaurant. We sampled Tahitian specialties, French pastries and fresh fruit. The InterContinental is set on about 30 acres of lush tropical greenery with panoramic views of Tahiti and the adjacent island of Moorea. We walked the length of the property, checking out the on-site restaurants, bars, water sports and pools. A variety of on- and off-site activities are available to book via the concierge, both complimentary and for a fee. After our stroll, we made our way to the spa for a couple’s spa treatment. This was a highlight of our stay.
The next day we took the hotel shuttle into Papeete, French Polynesia’s capital. Situated on the water, the capital is a hub for tourism, government and industry. A port of call for cruise ships, Papeete offers plenty of shopping options for all budgets. The Tahiti Pearl Market, Papeete Market and Pearl Museum are large tourist draws. Tahiti is an ideal honeymoon destination whether you’re interested in relaxation or adventure.
