I just returned from a trip to London and stayed at the new Corinthia Hotel. It is a fantastic property with a top restaurant, Massimo.
The hotel was created in the former Ministry of Defence building, and during World War II, Winston Churchill’s office was located there. The building was abandoned for some years. Corinthia took it over and gutted the interior to create this beautiful hotel. It made Fortune Magazine’s Best New Hotels.
The location is perfectly positioned. It is a few steps from Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and Westminster. Most rooms have views of the London Eye and the Millennium Bridge. The building was built in 1885 at the end of the Victorian era and has a historical vibe with a modern touch.
The plentiful staff at the hotel are there to make your stay enjoyable and productive. I had a “power breakfast” in Northall, the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I took a nice walk around London from Covent Garden to Trafalgar by Old Bond Street and the Ritz to Hyde Park and Harrods — all within an easy walk.
Not a hotel chain known by the American traveler — but worth a visit!
