Casa Habita in Guadalajara, Jalisco

by Angelique Platas

Nov 28, 2019

Quickly becoming Mexico City’s hipper, bohemian cousin, Guadalajara is heating up as a tourist destination. Matching the city’s eclectic vibe with its 1930s-meets-modern décor, swanky events and historic architecture, Casa Habita pairs well for a visitor’s stay.

At first glance, you’ll notice the entrance flows easily into a cigar room with tropical, lounge seating to one side and a palm tree and upscale wicker seating-style dining room to the other, where guests can find complimentary continental breakfast.

At the concierge desk, guests check in with complimentary fruit-infused water and tequila standing by. Grab your old-fashioned key and head to your room, but don’t forget to lock it from the inside and outside when you leave — nothing automatic about the guestroom doors.

The rooms resemble a Mad Men-meets-Mexico style, with mod furniture blending with velvet seating and minimalist décor. The junior suites offer plentiful floor-to-ceiling windows and black-out curtains, boasting views of the city and other floors of the hotel.

The open floor plan of the room is a refreshing take on a city guestroom, with only one area rug, no doors on the restroom and shower and no real furniture beyond a desk and bed; this room is your oyster.

If you’re looking for a vibe, this hotel offers that and more — with a location to match. Take a complimentary vintage bike for a ride around town, exploring all the boutique cafés, shops and galleries in the area. Get some exercise on the green path behind the hotel and feel like a real local in this artsy, international (and Instagrammable) locale.
