Who knew cancel culture would extend to every event under the sun and most of 2020 as we know it — still crossing my fingers for two concerts I have lined up that are (so far) still on — but I refuse to accept whole seasons are canceled. Sure, summer feels uncertain with beach towns less than enthusiastic to receive nonresident visitors and restaurants on the East Coast still shuttered, even to outdoor diners, but we still have spring, and I intend to not take it for granted.

Over on the East Coast, we’ve received more than our fair share of rain, so outdoor time can be hit or miss. This week I was fortunate enough to get outside for several miles’ worth of walks around the neighborhood to enjoy the seasonal blooms — something I wouldn’t necessarily take advantage of during a normal work week or after a day at the office.

If the COVID-19 crisis taught me any small lesson so far, it’s nothing is truly guaranteed. When people say “live each day like it’s your last,” I listen, but there’s nothing like a pandemic to really drive it home.

Still, I appreciate Alanis Morissette and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds for holding off on canceling shows for now and giving me that extra dash of hope for summer 2020.
