2022 Music Memories
Although we’ve closed out January and are headed into February, I am still reflecting on my highlights of 2022. While many things stood out, I think the best part was seeing some great musicians live in concert. When the legendary Spotify Wrapped came out, I saw just how much I listened to these artists and realized I was lucky enough to see the majority of my top artists in concert this year. Here is a breakdown of some pretty awesome performances I saw from my top artists over the past year.

Pedal through sun-drenched vineyards, hike amidst blooming wildflowers and take a refreshing dip in your ship's sun-deck whirlpool. Indulge in the flavors of the region with delectable dishes featuring luscious Wachau Valley apricots and succulent Serbian plums. As night falls, watch as the cities along the rivers come alive, pulsating with an irresistible electric energy. The sun-soaked days and vibrant nights offer a compelling reason to embark on an AmaWaterways river cruise during the upcoming summer months.
Summer Entertainment Is Back!
Although my husband and I did a little traveling last summer and felt more comfortable (post-vaccinations) dining out and going to special events, there were still some big holes in our usual summer schedule. This year, though, we really feel like so much of what was missing the past two years has returned. Within the span of just over a week recently, we were able to enjoy two activities which have marked nearly every summer of the 13 years we've lived in Southern Oregon.
Supporting Youth in the Arts
I recently took my almost-8-year-old grandson to a local high school production of the Disney musical Newsies with admittedly mixed feelings of excitement and trepidation. I was deeply involved in theater in high school and majored in theatre arts in college and post-grad, performing and working backstage in a number of shows each year. I loved the sense of community as we worked to put a show together, and I still miss the spark that occurs between the audience and the players when both are fully immersed in a live performance. I looked forward to sharing with Sean that thrill, but I am realistic enough (and understand the capabilities of an active second grader) that I wasn't completely sure he would be able to handle sitting through a complete musical.

Pigs on the Wing
Last week saw us celebrating my husband's 71st birthday by attending our first indoor concert (come to think of it, our first concert, period) since the start of the COVID era. Both of us have been fully vaxxed since last spring and within the past month got our boosters, so we felt mostly comfortable with the idea, especially as the omicron variant had at that point not been identified in Oregon. Also, the concert would be in the Historic Rogue Theatre in neighboring Grants Pass, a venue which, at max capacity, hosts a fairly modest crowd of just over 500, and we planned on keeping our masks on throughout the evening. (Oregon law requires wearing masks in crowded indoor public settings unless one is actively eating or drinking.)
