Finger Lakes, N.Y.

The popular, upstate New York region is well-known among oenophiles for its short growing season and cool climate, producing varietals including Riesling, ice wine, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Not to mention, visitors can enjoy beautiful lake views while sipping delicious wine. A few of the best wineries in the region include Lamoreaux Landing, Sheldrake Point and Dr. Konstantin Frank.

Shenandoah Valley, Va.

There are more than two dozen wineries scattered throughout the vast Shenandoah Valley, tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Alleghenies to the west. The area boasts six wine trails to sample the region’s best, which often includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel, due to the region’s fertile soil and warm growing season. Some of the best wineries to visit include Veritas, Trump Winery and Shenandoah Vineyards.

Central Maryland

Explore the central Maryland wine region, nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, with its scenic rolling hills and charming mom-and-pop wineries. The region’s low-fertility soils and perfect amount of sunshine and rain make for outstanding wines. Black Ankle Winery and Old Westminster Winery may be lesser known in the grand world of wine, but their flavors speak for themselves.
