Self-storage company STORAGECafé recently released a study analyzing the best destinations for snowbirds for 2021. The term “snowbirds” refers to Americans and Canadians heading south for the colder months to avoid harsh northern winters.
Due to pandemic concerns, snowbird travel habits will look different for 2021. U.S. snowbirds showed a 14 percent drop in short-term rental interest. Only about 31 percent of Canadian snowbirds will travel to cities with more favorable climates.
Florida is among the top states for snowbirds, with six cities ranking in the top 10. California and Arizona are also popular destinations for travelers. As far as housing costs, Texas is the most budget-friendly state for snowbirds.
Top 10 cities for snowbirds:
- Boca Raton, Florida
- Jupiter, Florida
- West Palm Beach, Florida
- Fort Myers, Florida
- Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
- Honolulu, Hawai’i
- Clearwater, Florida
- Delray Beach, Florida
- Corpus Christi, Texas
- Gilbert, Arizona
To select the cities, the research team compared 392 cities based on factors, including temperature, seasonal housing availability, proximity to beaches, number of golf courses and parks, self-storage prices, safety and local COVID-19 vulnerability. Visit the website for a full list of the 100 best destinations.
