For the 14th straight year, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport nabbed the Top Efficiency Excellence Award from the Air Transport Research Society.
The award measures airport productivity, efficiency and cost competitiveness, meaning the airport, also the busiest in the United States, offers the best value to travelers while running the most effective operation.
The award surveyed 206 airports and ranked them in its latest Global Airport Benchmarking Report, based on data collected in 2015.
Among the worst ranking airports were New York’s LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.
The report’s 24 airport categories are based on region and number of passengers served each year. Atlanta’s airport had 101 million passengers in 2015, a whopping 20 million more than next-busiest Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Other airports winning in their categories were Minneapolis St. Paul International, which won among airports with 25–40 million passengers annually, and Vancouver International won best performing for airports with 10–25 million passengers.
Kahului Airport on Maui was awarded the most efficient and competitive airport accommodating fewer than 10 million travelers annually.
Internationally, high-performing airports included Athens International Airport, Jeju International Airport in South Korea, and Sydney International Airport in Australia.
