Americans Find Travel Planning Too Stressful

A portion of travelers say planning a trip is more stressful than planning their own wedding. According to a survey by Liligo.com, travel planning is becoming an all-consuming and extremely stressful experience. When the average American employee receives 10 vacation days per year, the pressure to make the right leisure travel choice is higher than ever. According to the survey, one of the most harrowing worries is a better or more appealing travel deal may become available after travelers book a trip they can no longer cancel. In fact, almost 10 percent said this is a reoccurring, definite event, which happens each time they plan a leisure trip. This leads many to search for leisure trips based on deals rather than actual locations and experiences. However, the final, most impactful stress spawns from the worry one won’t achieve the ultimate vacation, essentially forfeiting limited travel time for the year. In response, the amount of time used researching destinations and deals is ever increasing. Approximately one-third of survey respondents said they spend more time researching a vacation than researching needed personal medical care, and spend more time researching and planning than exercising. About one-fourth spend more time researching than staying up to date on current events, and just less than a quarter spend more time researching than preparing meals or talking to their parents. About one-tenth choose to research travel deals over spending time with their spouse or significant other. “With work stress on the rise and vacation days on the decline, Americans will go to great lengths to ensure their only days off are completely stress-free and ultimately seamless, but finding the most convenient and affordable deals out there can be difficult and time-consuming,” said Eric Urbain, marketing director, United States, Liligo.com. The Liligo.com survey was conducted online in July, polling more than 1,000 Americans. Do you spend an exorbitant amount of time researching or planning a trip? Do you feel an overwhelming pressure to plan the perfect leisure vacation, in fear you’ll otherwise waste your travel time? Email us and let us know.
