As one of the few U.S.-based airlines not offering seatback entertainment on its domestic routes, American Airlines is considering reinstalling this amenity.

The consideration comes from feedback from customers who feel that the airline should offer services that are on par with its competitors.

Data from other airlines show that when video screens are part of the in-flight services, passengers do indeed use them, even if they have brought their own media devices onboard, such as a tablet or Smartphone. It can be argued that such entertainment screens are obsolete if passengers are already bringing their own devices on board, but screens can be necessary amenities for traveling families, for example, who might not bring enough screens for their children.

As of mid-May, American Airlines is making some major changes under their new vice president of marketing, which, hopefully, will enhance the passenger experience. Such changes include using a new WiFi provider for international planes, enhancements to first-class seats on domestic routes and repairing dividers that separate international business class seats.
