The latest attraction in Belgium’s capital city celebrates all things train-related. Train World original scenography by artist François Schuiten and a variety of high-tech interactive experiences, the part-museum, part-experiential center highlights trains from the perspectives of past, present and future. Try your hand at driving one of the train simulators, or admire royal carriages and Belgium’s oldest preserved steam locomotive, the Pays de Waes.
The collection includes historic uniforms, an authentic gatekeeper’s house from the 1950s, photos, paintings, memorabilia, and extensive models of train and stations. A restaurant and gift shop is located on site within the 1867-built Schaerbeek Station, a listed monument that’s regarded as a masterpiece of Belgian railway architecture. How to get there? By rail, of course. Train World can be reached from Brussels Central Station and via tram lines 7 and 92.
