Alaska Airlines is again in expansion mode. The airline rolled out a new route between Newark (EWR) and San Diego (SAN), and it will continue year-round on a daily basis.

The flight leaves from San Diego International Airport at 9:55 a.m. and lands at Newark Liberty International Airport at 5:55 p.m. for a total flight time of five hours. The return flight leaves Newark at 7 p.m. and lands in San Diego at 10 p.m. for a flight time of six hours.

The route will utilize a Boeing 737-8 plane, which includes 12 first-class seats and 147 economy seats. First class on this plane has 36 inches of legroom, but there are no lie-flat options. Economy seats have 31 inches of legroom. All seats have laptop and USB charging ports.

“We continue to offer more non-stop options from San Diego for our valued Southern California customers. Newark becomes our third East Coast destination from San Diego along with Boston (BOS) and Orlando (MCO), and provides travelers easy access to the New York City metro area,” says John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning, Alaska Airlines.

Alaska is expanding its services to Newark; the San Diego route joins daily service from Portland (PDX), launched in early November. There are also new daily services from Seattle (SEA) and San Jose (SJC), which will begin in spring.
