Alaska Airlines begins non-stop service between San Francisco (SFO) and Kona (KOA).
The new flight marks the 31st new route launched by the carrier from California this year, part of the largest network expansion in the airline’s history.
“Bay Area guests now have the option to fly from any of the region’s major airports to the Island of Hawaii,” said Annabel Chang, vice president of the Bay Area, Alaska Airlines. “Kona-bound guests traveling from San Francisco today will be treated to a Hawaiian-themed breakfast and prizes at the departure gate, and upon arrival, will be greeted with flower leis, hula entertainment and goodie bags with Island of Hawaii products.”
Virgin America’s Airbus A320 family of aircraft operates the new route, with three classes of service, power outlets throughout the cabin, custom leather seats, adjustable headrests and a wide selection of food and beverages.
The flight departs San Francisco at 11:30 a.m., arriving in Kona at 3:15 p.m. The return departs Kona at 4:15 p.m., arriving in San Francisco at 11:17 p.m.

Sep 30, 2026Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley
Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
