Leading aviation trade organization Airlines for America released a statement on the state of affairs surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement briefly outlines the ways in which the government can aid the industry, and, as a result, the overall economy.
“This is a today problem, not a tomorrow problem. It requires urgent action,” said Nicholas E. Calio, CEO and president, A4A.
Airlines have already felt unprecedented cuts. Cancellations outweigh new bookings and carriers are forced to ground planes and lay off employees. The immediate and long-term assistance the association recommended includes access to grants, loans and tax relief efforts. The industry was previously healthy and strong, making the sudden onslaught all the more impactful, the statement said.
