Bust for airberlin
Germany’s second-largest airline, airberlin, announced Aug. 15 that it filed for bankruptcy protection. The news came on the heels of a notification from Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways that it would no longer provide financial support for the German airline.

Etihad has been airberlin’s largest shareholder since 2012 and, in April 2017, provided funding worth €250 million euro (about $290 million) to the ailing German carrier. “However, airberlin’s business has deteriorated at an unprecedented pace, preventing it from overcoming its significant challenges and from implementing alternative strategic solutions,” Etihad said in a statement.

For now, airberlin says flights are continuing and bookings remain valid, thanks to a bridge loan from the German government. Lufthansa and perhaps another carrier are finalizing deals to take over some of airberlin’s operations.

Registered fans can earn bonus miles, merchandise and some special experiences, including one mile for every yard thrown by the Seahawks on the field at both home and away games and priority boarding on all Delta flights out of Sea-Tac (SEA) during the NFL season.

A dozen 12status members will get a $120 Seahawks Pro Shop gift card each month during the season and, during each home game, two lucky 12status members will get a special Game Day bonus package that includes a reserved parking spot, pre-game sideline passes and two Delta Sky360 Level seats.
