A recent collaboration between Airbus and Zodiac may bring in-air sleeping to a new level.

The plane producer and the aerospace design company conceptualized a way to allow more passengers to sleep the way humans were meant to sleep: lying down. The models of beds form bunk beds and can be outfitted in a plane’s cargo hold.

Early architectural plans reveal the bunk beds will feature soft lighting on the floor and ceiling of the sleeping area, as well as storage shelves for personal items and seating areas.

Although still in the planning and early development stages, the two companies envision such beds will fit nicely into Airbus A330 aircraft flying long-haul routes and that they could be equipped with these sleeping quarters by 2020. Booking polices, including whether guests will be able to reserve a bed in advance or request one in the middle of a flight, still need to be determined.
