Air New Zealand received a new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with a new seat configuration and rolled out in-flight WiFi across its international fleet.
The Dreamliner is the airline’s 10th, outfitted with additional premium seating. The Business Premier class now has 27 seats, up from 18, and premium economy now has 33 compared to the previous 21. The airline will receive four planes total with this new configuration.
“Since we introduced the Dreamliner, we have seen strong customer demand for our award-winning Business Premier and premium economy cabins and the products and service that come with these,” said Mike Tod, chief marketing and customer officer, Air New Zealand. The plane started flying Oct. 15.
Travelers on the airline’s 777-300 planes will receive in-flight WiFi, as the company started installing the service on its international fleet. There’s currently a trial on a single 777-300 plane, but more jets will receive the upgrade over the next few months.
“We’re launching inflight WiFi as a trial initially in order to gather customer feedback and ensure it meets the needs of our customers before we roll it our across our international jet fleet,” said Avi Golan, chief digital officer, Air New Zealand.
WiFi rollout is expected to finish by June 2018 for the 300s, and the 777-200s will see the service next April.
