Air France will begin adding new luggage compartments to its Airbus A320 planes in 2020. The new bins, made by French manufacturer Safran, have 60 percent more storage capacity than current models. They also have a lower shelf height for easier access.
The airline will roll out 1,342 new luggage compartments across its 40 A320s and 11 A321s, starting September 2020 and finishing September 2022. No other airline has a similar product.
“Air France will be the first airline to offer these innovative luggage compartments,” said Catherine Villar, SVP customer experience, Air France. “They will enable us to meet the high expectations of our customers wishing to travel with cabin bags only to save time during their trip. Boarding will be smoother and faster, both for them and for our crews. This represents a significant improvement in comfort and operational efficiency.”
