Air Belgium, the new Belgian airline, announced it will fly direct from Brussels South Airport to the heart of Europe and Asia, including China.
The airline selected Brussels South due to its convenient accessibility, efficient and quality service, competitive costs and commitment to expand into a larger international airport. It will also relieve Brussels (BRU), which saw significant traffic in recent years, often resulting in overcrowding.
“The airport is well established and attracts millions of travelers among which 60 percent are international passengers and 31 percent are business travelers. We are convinced our passengers will benefit from a great service, especially because Brussels South is starting to adjust its current infrastructure,” said Niky Terzakis, CEO, Air Belgium.
The airport will change its infrastructure to welcome Air Belgium’s fleet of four Airbus A340-300s, with gradual deliveries beginning in February. A premium terminal will open in the Terminal Sud to meet the needs of business- and premium-class travelers, including a full-service lounge. Construction begins at the end of May.
Air Belgium’s first flights are planned for the end of this month, with Hong Kong (HKG) the first official destination.
