After a rocky start, new carrier Air Belgium secured overfly rights from Russia allowing it to start flights to Asia this June.
Air Belgium CEO Terzakis told Luchtvaartnieuws the kick-off service between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Hong Kong (HKG) starts this month and the carrier will have its third Airbus A340 plane up and running by the end of the month.
That will allow it to start flying to the Chinese mainland in addition to Hong Kong, which the airline hopes to do in the next few months. Air Belgium will need to get its Hong
Kong route started first, and that date has pushed back twice.
The most recent delay was due to the airline not having the overfly rights from Russia, plus complications of its GDS system preventing Chinese tourist groups from being directed to its flights.
