A renovation 10 years in the making gets a royal debut in a few weeks when Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands hosts the official reopening of the Rijksmuseum.

Set for April 13, the official ceremony kicks off at mid-day. After the ceremony, the public is invited to tour the museum free of charge until midnight.

The decade-long renovation of the historic 19th-century building includes the creation of a new entrance hall, a new Asian pavilion and a renovated garden. The museum features more than 8,000 works of art and artifacts telling the story of 800 years of Dutch art and history. Works by Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn are presented in chronological sequence, creating an impression of the passage of time.

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”
