Beginning this fall, travelers who visit New Zealand will need to take a few extra steps before arriving to the island nation of adventure.
In March, New Zealand’s government announced the implementation of the Electronic Travel Authority, a new procedure visitors will have to follow in order to enter the country. The ETA will be required for all travelers from 60 visa-waiver countries. New Zealand tourism officials tout this new process as a way to enhance security and improve the overall travel experience.
To apply for the ETA, travelers simply need to fill out a form via mobile app or online and pay the associated fee ($6 for mobile, $8 for website).
Once approved, the ETA will last for two years. The ETA requirement also applies to travelers just passing through New Zealand’s airports, even if it’s not the final destination. The measure goes into full effect beginning Oct. 1.
