Last Saturday, Turkish Airline’s transition to its new home at İstanbul Airport concluded following five months of gradual transition.

The move represents an important milestone in Turkish Aviation history. The move officially concluded 12 hours ahead of schedule, April 6 at 8 p.m. local time. The move signals the end of Turkish Airlines’ 86-year tenure at Atatürk Airport.

“Currently the biggest airport project of the world, this enormous facility will be the home of the resounding local and global growth of Turkish Airlines in future while becoming the most important driving force behind our growth with its state of the art physical capabilities and capacity,” said M Ílker Ayci, chairman of the board and executive committee, Turkish Airlines.

İstanbul and Atatürk Airports closed for 12 hours during the move. Turkish Airlines flights originating at İstanbul Airport will keep the familiar airport code, with Atatürk’s IST code being given to İstanbul Airport.  Atatürk Airport will become ISL.
