During a time when many seem to turn away from Myanmar due to the Rohingya refugee crisis, ASIA Destination Management Company takes steps to promote the nation as a destination.
According to ASIA DMC, Myanmar welcomed an increasing flow of visitors to the region since it opened up for international travel in 1992. From 2016–2017, tourist numbers increased. Since 2017, those numbers dropped. In an effort to reverse this trend, ASIA DMC works to extoll Myanmar’s virtues as a tourist destination.
“Through our original Spirit of Travel philosophy, ASIA DMC will continue to introduce guests to a diverse collection of sustainable and authentic experiences in Myanmar, showcasing the very best of what this captivating country has to offer,” commented Gerben Bloemendaal, managing director, ASIA DMC Myanmar.
New resorts for the Mergui archipelago are being built to accommodate guests in luxury and sustainability. As of March 2018, Myanmar is home to 1,628 hotels and guesthouses with 65,470 rooms throughout the entire country.
“There is plenty of improved travel infrastructure and as much opportunity to experience luxury travel as there is to immerse yourself in the country’s rustic charms or to delve into its spirituality” said Linh Le, group MD, ASIA DMC.
