Ireland-based Aer Lingus reportedly struck a deal with Alaska Airlines’ frequent-flyer program so travelers who book flights with either airline can earn miles toward Alaska’s Mileage Plan.
Alaska Airlines cultivated similar arrangements with other international airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines and Icelandair, but the Pacific Northwest airline lost partnerships with strong European-bound carriers like Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM. The agreement with Aer Lingus helps Alaska Airlines expand its reach into Europe by way of Aer Lingus’ hub in Dublin while simultaneously allowing Aer Lingus to directly reach West Coast destinations like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
Alaska Airlines loyalty members will be able to earn and redeem points on flights between the United States and Ireland, and even beyond to mainland Europe when flying with Aer Lingus. Announced in March, this agreement could take up to six months to go into effect.
