Viking Cruises (https://www.vikingcruises.com/) announced a new ocean itinerary, offering guests the opportunity to explore the far north during Norway’s peak Aurora Borealis sighting period.

Sailing between London and Bergen in January 2019, the In Search of the Northern Lights itinerary will establish Viking as the first U.S. cruise line to offer a full-length itinerary in the Arctic Circle in the winter season.

Scandinavia is Viking territory, and no other cruise line can show guests this part of the world like we can,” said Torstein Hagen, chairman, Viking Cruises. “Norway’s landscapes in the winter are truly magnificent, something few North Americans get to witness.”

Sailing the 930-guest Viking Sky is an experience in itself. Referred to by Torstein as the “thinking person’s cruise,” the cruise ship is designed for discerning travelers with interests in history, art, music and cuisine. The ship spends more time in port and more overnights, and the ship’s design is inspired by authentic Scandinavian spaces.

From the magnificent ship, guests can enjoy the stunning scenery of the snowy Norway wilderness, with a chance every night to stargaze and scan for the Northern Lights. During the 13-day itinerary, guests can immerse themselves in northern European culture, visiting seven destinations including Alta, Máze, Tromsø and Stavanger.
