If you’ve visited Switzerland, you’ve probably spent time photographing the scenic landscape — but if it’s still on your bucket list, chances are you’ll be missing out on posting a “where you’d rather be” photo on social media of one idyllic town after its new ban.

The commune of Bergun, Switzerland, north of alpine resort town St. Moritz, approved a new law banning photography of the town. Residents believe it is far too beautiful and posting photos will cause friends and family back home to experience FOMO and travel envy. They’ve even posted a sign that roughly translates to “Photographs of our picturesque landscape, shared on social media, can make others unhappy because they themselves cannot be here.”

“It is scientifically proven that beautiful holiday photos on social media make the viewer unhappy because they cannot be here themselves,” said the village tourist office. The tourist office already took down photos of the picturesque alpine village from its own Facebook and Twitter accounts and intends to remove them from its website.

Social media users alike may feel compelled to take a picture with the sign prohibiting photography, but there’s a fine and violators will be charged $5 for illegal photo taking — with all proceeds going to help protect the landscape.
