Hawaiian Airlines announced the addition of three new aircraft to its fleet with the purchase of one Airbus A330-200 and the lease of two A321neos. The new planes will allow the airline to retire the fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft early, by the end of 2018, while supporting sustainable growth of its short- and long-haul missions.

The airline previously announced plans to phase in 16 new A32neo aircraft beginning in 2017. The letters of intent recently signed for the delivery of additional aircraft in early 2018 and will bring its total fleet of A321neos to 18 by 2020.

“The addition of these three aircraft provide for low- to mid-single-digit capacity growth over the remainder of the decade,” said Peter Ingram, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Hawaiian Airlines. “At the same time, the accelerated retirement of the Boeings 767s from our fleet will simplify our operation and allow us to be more efficient.”

The single-aisle A321neo will complement Hawaiian’s current fleet of 23 Airbus A330-200 wide-body, twin-aisle aircraft on long-haul routes between Hawai’i and the U.S. West Coast. The total number of A330s in Hawaiian’s fleet will be 24 by the fourth quarter of 2017. Hawaiian also operates 20 narrow-body Boeing 717-200 and three ATR-42 aircraft for flights to neighboring islands.
