Alaska Airlines launched the first regularly scheduled U.S. commercial flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Havana (HAV) last week, marking the first time since the early 1970s the airline has flown to Cuba.
The new daily service will depart Seattle (SEA) at 5 a.m., stop in Los Angeles (LAX) and then fly to Havana at 8:50 a.m. The return service to Los Angeles will depart Havana at 5:55 p.m. and end in Seattle at 11:25 p.m.
“LAX is America’s gateway to the world — and today, an exciting new chapter in U.S.-Cuba relations begins at our airport,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “I am thrilled to see the first-ever commercial flight from the West Coast to Havana take off from LAX, and grateful to Alaska Airlines for helping connect Angelenos with people and cultures from around the world.”
The new flight will operate on the airline’s Boeing 737-900ER, which offers free premium entertainment, food and beverage options inspired by local cuisine and custom leather seats with adjustable headrests and power outlets for personal devices.
