Amtrak is anticipating an increase in ridership around the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump on Jan. 20. In response, the company is adding trains and seating capacity in the days before and after the event.
Amtrak added capacity for the Northeast Regional service Jan. 20–23, and will add more trips on its Acela Express and Northeast Regional services on Jan. 21. Amtrak officials said they will monitor the demand leading up to the inauguration and adjust as needed.
“We’re proud to be able to provide a vital transportation service to this historic event,” said Jason Molfetas, executive vice president, Amtrak, in a statement. “Our customers who have traveled with us in the past know that there is no better way to get into and out of D.C. during Inauguration week than with Amtrak. Many of the streets into the city will be closed in the days leading up to the Inauguration, and Amtrak takes you right into the heart of the activities. Many of the Inauguration events and festivities are just blocks away from Union Station.”
Amtrak is providing tips for travelers as they prepare to attend the inauguration, via the company’s official website.

Branded residences may seem new, but the first official hotel-branded residence actually dates back to 1927 when Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York City offered permanent residential apartments with hotel amenities and services. The current concept of branded residences can be traced to Boston, where Four Seasons debuted its first modern branded residences in 1985.
