During Bastille Day celebrations in Nice yesterday, a truck intentionally drove into a crowd of partygoers following a fireworks display. The vehicle was loaded with weapons and explosives. After driving into the crowd for a little more than a mile, the driver emerged and began shooting. Police fired upon the assailant, who died at the scene. The panicked crowd dispersed, seeking shelter in nearby businesses and on the beach, leaving a trail of bodies lining the streets. French officials are investigating the situation as actions on behalf of an organized terror group and French news organizations identified the attacker as Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Tunisian delivery truck driver living in France for just more than 10 years. So far, no group claims responsibility. The event is the country’s third major terrorist attack in 19 months. As of press time the death toll was 84, with 202 injured.
