Three months after Tropical Cyclone Winston devastated parts of Fiji, Outrigger Resorts reopens Castaway Island. After repairing damage caused by the storm, Outrigger also added upgrades and refurbishments to the property. “Winston may have been classified as the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Fiji in record history, but the reopening of our beautiful island resort just three short months after such a severe storm is proof that our Castaway Island vuvale, our family, is so much stronger and more resilient than any storm can be,” said Steven Andrews, general manager, Castaway Island. The resort completely rebuilt or upgraded 14 out of 65 bures, though the décor remains the same. The resort’s award-winning restaurant and outdoor kitchen, also upgraded, now serves new menus, as do the resort’s additional three restaurants. “Castaway Island has a 40 percent return guest rate and the highest guest satisfaction scores in the Outrigger portfolio, so we are very much looking forward to being able to open the doors and continue this trend,” added Andrews.
