It’s a brave new world of air travel, one in which the quality of an airline’s WiFi has become a deciding factor when booking a plane ticket, according to Honeywell’s third annual Passenger Connectivity Survey. Some three out of four airline passengers say they would switch airlines to have access to a faster, better internet connection in the air. Most travelers surveyed were dissatisfied with the service on their flights and only 22 percent reported an “extremely reliable” experience in the last year. Twenty-one percent said they have given up on an airline they were previously loyal to because of bad WiFi. That number has risen from 2014, showing more passengers have higher expectations when it comes to internet in the sky. Eighty-four percent said they wanted an experience similar to what they have at home, enabling them to stream video, for example. Millennials are a driving force in WiFi consumption, and they value it more than people in other age groups. Seventy-three percent reported the connection is a deciding factor in the flights they book, and millennials expect a constant connection while flying.
