Corinthia Hotel St. George’s Bay, the luxury hotel in Malta, is expanding its tech offerings to better serve guests. The hotel’s Twitter by the Pool service is already a hit, allowing guests to simply tweet their food and drink orders to the pool bar and restaurant, using their umbrella number. Then, the orders are promptly delivered to guests without the need to ever leave their lounge chair.
The new offering uses WhatsApp and takes the mobile service experience a step further. Guests can now use a pre-allocated WhatsApp number to contact the hotel directly from anywhere on the island for any request or service they need during their stay. The choice to use WhatsApp for the new service comes from the app’s growing popularity (1 billion users worldwide as of February) and accessibility on iPhone, Blackberry, Windows, Android and Nokia devices, without extra costs for SMS services.
“This and similar initiatives are a way of putting our Craftsmanship of Care philosophy into practice. We do not simply provide a given service to the best of our ability, but we also want to ensure that our guests are able to use that service with the least effort and using a media that they are familiar with,” said Stuart Chappell, general manager, Corinthia Hotel St. George’s Bay.
