A recent survey from MileCards.com studies the ways in which travelers interact with their airline rewards programs.
One of their most interesting findings was how often members check up on their miles balance — 17 percent have a habit of checking their balance on a monthly basis, more often than most individuals check their credit score. More than half (53 percent) are satisfied with their rewards program, followed by 28 percent feeling dissatisfied. Small portions of 9 and 10 percent either are obsessed with their miles or think their miles have no value, respectively.
Many are worried about award flight prices, and having award flights available when and where they need to fly, but a hefty 75 percent found they were able to book an award flight successfully whenever they needed. However, only 39 percent of rewards members even attempted to book an awards flight in the last year.
What airlines host the most awards flyers among U.S. airlines? Twelve percent of Southwest passenger miles were used for award tickets last year, almost double that of United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.
