Media and executives tested Munich Airport’s new “personal transport system,” or PTS. The automated train links Terminal 2 to the new infield satellite facility, eliminating the need for buses and making travel between the two destinations quick and convenient.

The original tunnel for the train was built in conjunction with Terminal 2, which opened nearly 14 years ago. The tunnel accommodates two tracks, with three trains made up of 12 cars, moving at little more than seven mph. Each car can accommodate more than 90 passengers, with the entire system transporting 9,000 passengers per hour in each direction.

“Our passengers will travel between Terminal 2 and the new satellite facility in less than a minute,” said Thomas Winkelmann, Lufthansa. “That is outstanding in terms of comfort and quality. The satellite has five new Lufthansa lounges for our passengers as well as 27 additional pierside boarding gates for maximum convenience.”
