Japanese airports are among the world’s best airports for on-time performance, according to OAG’s Punctuality League for 2015, an annual ranking of on-time performance for airlines and airports.
Osaka’s Itami Airport recorded the world’s highest punctuality rate, with 93.85 per cent of its flights arriving and departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. Tokyo’s Haneda Airport was the top-ranked large airport, with 91.25 per cent of its flights arriving and departing on time.
Several Asia Pacific airports were highly ranked, including Adelaide Airport (90.18 per cent), Perth Airport (88.58 per cent), Cairns Airport (88.40 per cent), Brisbane Airport (88.31 per cent), Christchurch International Airport (88.14 per cent), Nagoya’s Chubu Centrair International Airport (88.11 per cent), Auckland Airport (88.67 per cent), Sydney Airport (85.20 per cent), Melbourne Airport (85.02 per cent) and Singapore’s Changi Airport (84.57 per cent)
Japan’s airlines also stood out with their performances. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways were the highest ranked carriers in Asia, with on-time performances of 90.44 per cent and 89.7 per cent, respectively. Both ranked in the top five most punctual airlines in the world.
The world’s five most punctual airports were Osaka (ITM), Brussels (CRL), Panama City (BLB), Tokyo (HND) and Stavanger (SVG). The five most punctual airlines were airBaltic, Copa Airlines, Azul, JAL and ANA.
