Langham Hotels & Resorts is the latest luxury hotel chain to enter the Japanese market with plans to open the first Langham-branded hotel on a 43,000-square-foot area in Tokyo’s Roppongi district. The 5-star property is slated to open in 2019, a year before Tokyo hosts the 2020 Olympics, near the Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Midtown shopping and entertainment complexes. The number of foreign visitors to Japan surpassed 10 million for the first time in 2013 and is on track to set a new record for the third straight year in 2015. Other luxury companies recently moving into Japan include Aman Resorts and Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
