Destinations / Europe

Known the world over for impeccable fashion and design and serving as a center of business and industry for Italy as a whole, Milan is a perfect urban destination. Packed with art, shopping and history, Milan offers plenty to fill your hours, whether you’re looking to snag a purchase from your designer wish list or to explore some of Italy’s greatest attractions after a successful day of business.

GETTING THERE
Milan’s central location makes getting to and from the city easy. Milan Malpensa Airport, 28 miles from city center, is about a one-hour car ride from all the action. Malpensa Shuttle bus service takes around 50 minutes, departing the airport every 20 minutes for around $11. The 30-minute express train drops riders at Cadorna Station in Milan. Taxis can be pricey, about $102 one way.

GETTING AROUND
The center of Milan is conducive to walking and bike riding; the bike share program offers a weekly subscription for around $7. Four underground lines operated by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi conveniently run 6 a.m.–midnight, daily. A 10-ticket bundle costs around $16; day passes run about $5.

9–5
Bice
For that quick yet crucial lunch meeting, Bice offers four menus specially tailored to business lunches, with options ranging from vegetarian and light to traditional Mediterranean. Bice boasts these carefully crafted menus are meant to be quickly prepared but are just as delectable as its typical Tuscan cuisine.

Don Carlos
Located at the Grand Hotel et de Milan, Don Carlos provides an elegant option for dinner with clients. With historic surroundings — parts of the wine cellar date back to the Roman Empire — and antique furnishings, the stage is perfectly set for the exclusive gastronomic experience you’ll find at Don Carlos.

La Veranda
La Veranda is a great place for a breakfast with colleagues or even on your own before a hectic day, especially if you happen to already be staying at the Four Seasons Milan. Breakfast is served 7–11 a.m., and both indoor and outdoor seating is available, weather permitting. The seasonal menu offers plenty of vegetarian options.

AFTER 5
Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie
While you may not recognize the name of this UNESCO World Heritage site right off the bat, you’ll definitely recognize the name of the famous work of art it contains — Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. Viewing hours of this must-see attraction have been extended until 10 p.m. due to Milan’s Expo 2015, held until Oct. 31.

Mio
This popular dining spot opened late last year inside the Park Hyatt Milan and is open 6:30 a.m.–1 a.m., serving a buffet breakfast, lunch, an all-day menu and seasonal cocktails. However, it’s the aperitivo time, the restaurant’s main attraction, served in the evenings after 6:30 p.m., you’ll not want to miss.

Quadrilatero della Moda
The Quadrilatero, Milan’s fashion district, is the place where all your shopping dreams come true. Here you’ll find international couture at your fingertips, with an endless number of designer labels. Don’t miss Via Monte Napoleone, the most famed street in the neighborhood and where only the most luxurious stores reside.

Review: Sushi by Scratch at Grand Hyatt Deer Valley

Husband-and-wife team Phillip Frankland Lee and Margarita Kallas-Lee made their mark by reinventing the term “hidden gem” through their surprising and intentional collection of destination restaurants. While they launched the original Scratch Kitchen in 2013, an expired lease prompted them to relocate to an unassuming strip mall in suburban Encino in 2015 and rename it Scratch Bar & Kitchen. Even at a time when the San Fernando Valley was not known for innovative 5-star dining, the Lees’ concepts gathered such a strong buzz that discerning diners cheerfully followed them “over the hill.”

Viking to Debut New Ship in Spring 2027

Viking continues to set the bar high with its recent announcement of a second hydrogen-powered cruise ship, Viking Astrea. What does this mean exactly? Capable of operating with zero emissions, the ship reduces environmental impact by eliminating any harmful pollutants filling the air during operation. This also allows guests potential access to the most environmentally sensitive areas during the cruise.
