With two city locations, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco have lots to offer. At the de Young location in Golden Gate Park, current exhibitions include Anthony Friedkin: The Gay Essay (through Jan. 11). The display includes audio commentary by the artist, along with photographs and photo essays including 75 vintage prints, contact prints and documents from Friedkin’s personal archives. Also on show until Feb. 16, Keith Haring: The Political Line showcases more than 130 of Haring’s works, with large-scale paintings, sculptures and a selection of the artist’s famed subway drawings.
Meanwhile, at the museum’s Legion of Honor Lincoln Park address, Houghton Hall: Portrait of an English Country House continues until Jan. 18. Britain’s first prime minister, Sir Robert Walpole, built the Hall during the 1720s. The museum exhibition includes centuries-old furnishings, silver collections, Sèvres porcelain, marble sculptures, and paintings by Thomas Gainsborough, John Singer Sargent, Andrea del Sarto and Sir Joshua Reynolds. To add to the aristocratic experience, a full English tea service is offered in the Legion of Honor Café.
