I took a direct flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and arrived at the new Posadas property, Live Aqua, in the late afternoon. The hotel is located off the end of one of the longest streets in Mexico City, Reforma. Although having very narrow lanes, the street boasts museums and mansions behind large and expensive gated and armed walls. The area Bosques de Las Lomas has an upscale and safe atmosphere with high-end shopping malls and corporate office buildings.

Stepping into the lobby of Live Aqua, I realized the pictures I scoped out on the website did not do it justice. The friendly valets opened the glass doors into a open-air lobby with soaring ceilings, decorated with local art pieces and plenty of comfortable and chic seating. The aroma in the lobby was addictive. Reception is off to the right. I was given a glass of chilled wine while checking in — always a plus.

My room opened up into high ceilings and had an airy feel. The large windows provided the natural light I crave in hotel rooms. The wooden floors led to a guest bathroom and the living room area with gray walls and blue couches facing a 46-inch flat-screen television.

The bedroom had a king-size bed and plenty of seating. The work desk was also in the bedroom. Although in an awkward place, there was plenty of surface area and outlets. The bathroom was impressive — double sinks, a stand-alone tub, lounging area and huge closet made my stay even better.

The hotel also boasts a fully-equipped gym, two restaurants, a bar and a newly-opened spa.
