Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group announced the expansion of its upscale Amari brand with plans to open a new property in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Scheduled to open in 2014, Amari Dhaka will be located in the business district of Gulshan near Dhaka International Airport (DAC). The property will feature 134 guestrooms and suites, a spa, a fitness center, a rooftop swimming pool, meeting and event space and three restaurants and bars including a destination rooftop bar. “We are very excited to be in a position to announce our first property development in Bangladesh and delighted to be working with Karishma Services to open this wonderful Amari property in Dhaka. Bangladesh has a thriving economy and the country’s GDP is experiencing sustainable growth, particularly in the textile manufacturing, financial and telecommunications sectors which has resulted in strong demand for high quality hotel accommodation,” said Peter Henley, CEO, ONYX. Amari’s ONYX portfolio includes 11 properties in Thailand and one in Doha, Qatar.
