Air Canada unveiled a major expansion of international services from Toronto (YYZ), Montreal (YUL), Vancouver (YVR) and Calgary (YYC) with plans to launch flights to four new European destinations in summer 2014, including Milan (MXP), Lisbon (LIS), Nice (NCE) and Manchester (MAN). From June 18, the airline will offer the only non-stop service between Canada and Milan with the launch of non-stop flights from Toronto. Its leisure carrier subsidiary, Air Canada rouge, will also launch seasonal non-stop flights between Toronto–Lisbon, Toronto–Manchester, Montreal–Barcelona (BCN) and Montreal–Nice in summer 2014. “The expansion of Air Canada’s global network to include four new European destinations is a significant turning point in Air Canada’s international growth strategy. With the addition of Air Canada mainline service to Milan, a key business center, and Air Canada rouge service to popular holiday destinations such as Lisbon, Nice and Manchester, we are offering customers great new options when making their travel plans beginning next summer,” said Ben Smith, executive vice president and COO of Air Canada. “Since the launch of our Toronto–Istanbul (IST) non-stop service in June 2013, customer response has been very positive and we look forward to increasing to daily flights with convenient connections throughout the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.”

High-Spirited Hong Kong: The Dynamic Hub Embraces Its Maritime History and Culture

It was known as the “Kai Tak heart attack” — the thrilling, terrifying final approach into Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport. Airliners were required to bank sharply at the last moment, dodging hills and apartment blocks to line up with a runway jutting out into Kowloon Bay. The airport is long gone, but international visitors are arriving at Kai Tak again, albeit more sedately. Their cruise ships dock smoothly at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, a modern gateway designed by Sir Norman Foster.
