Glass artist Dale Chihuly is widely known for his innovative blown glass sculptures and architectural installations. With a resume that includes the Rhode Island School of Design and hands-on training at the Venini glass factory in Venice, his works of varied scale and dimension are included in more than 200 museum collections around the planet. Chihuly is the cofounder of the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Wash., and his large-scale installations have been featured at the Tower of David Museum in Israel and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
His fascination with glass houses led to Garden Cycle, launched at Chicago’s Garfield Park Conservatory in 2001 and continued at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This month, Chihuly continues the theme in Phoenix, Ariz. with Chihuly in the Garden, an exhibition of glass works displayed at the Desert Botanical Garden. The exhibit, presented by JPMorgan Chase, opens Nov. 10 and runs until May 18, 2014 with three showings per day: 8 a.m. to noon, 12–4 p.m. and 4–8 p.m. In addition, Chihuly Nights — with cash bar and a live DJ — takes place from 8 p.m. to midnight on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; and April 5, 12 and 19 (reservations are necessary).
