Arrival/Check-in: Upon my arrival at Hotel Marlowe, I was greeted by a warm and friendly staff that continued to assist me with any need throughout my stay. Mail and messages were waiting for me when I checked in. I was quickly escorted to my room. 19/20
Guest Quarters: Hotel Marlowe is a boutique-style hotel on the Cambridge side of the Charles River just minutes from downtown Boston. Guestrooms feature oversized windows that provided a welcome surplus of natural light. Aveda bath products were waiting for me in the modern and comfortable bathroom. In a nod to Boston’s Colonial heritage, armchairs were upholstered in red fabric highlighted by gold stars. The desk provided ample room to set up my laptop and work materials. There was also a full-sized iron and ironing board. 13/15
Services/Amenities: Complimentary high-speed Internet access was a huge convenience, and I was able to look out at Boston’s new Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge while I worked. A small but efficient 24-hour business center-access is by guestroom key-is available to guests. Designer Susan Caruso created the hotel’s sophisticated yet whimsical decor. A living room area off the lobby features several seating arrangements and a wonderful mahogany fireplace. Much to my delight, I learned complimentary coffee is offered in the living room each morning and wine is offered for an hour each evening. After a busy day, it was a pleasure to return to the comfort of my guestroom to watch television, play video games or listen to music. 36/45
The Experience: In addition to catering to guests’ needs, Hotel Marlowe reaches out to the community by hosting occasional readings. Held in the living room, the readings are open to the public. The readings follow on the theme of the hotel’s opening event-a “Drive In, Drop Off” book drive that benefited the Cambridge Public Library. This boutique-style hotel offers something for everyone. 14/20
Last word: Hotel Marlowe is equally appealing to both business and leisure travelers.

Sep 18, 2026Choose Your Own Island Vibe in French Polynesia
“We are on small, tiny rocks, isolated in the middle of the largest ocean.” On a nature tour on the atoll of Tetiaroa, my naturalist guide, Thierry Sommers, thus reminded me of the oceanic remoteness of our location in the South Pacific. I was staying at The Brando, a luxurious private island resort that sits a mere 30-minute flight from the main island of Tahiti but still feels gloriously far away from regular civilization.
