United, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, the nation’s three biggest airlines, announced Dec. 12 they are weeks away from providing Internet service on international flights. The airlines are currently installing satellite-based Internet connections that work over the ocean. United’s first plane will be outfitted within the next few weeks, with 300 by the end of 2013. According to chief executive officer Stephan Gorman, Delta expects to provide the service within 45 days and outfit its entire fleet with international WiFi in the next 18 months to two years. American Airline’s first plane with international WiFi delivered Dec. 11 and will transport passengers by the end of next month. Prices have not been disclosed.
